LIVE Blitz Chess Commentary #174: Sicilian Defense – Taimanov

This is a blitz chess game I played against a random opponent who was selected from the ChessNetwork Cafe on ChessCube. The game was livestreamed at . Time controls are set at 5 minutes per player.

Opening: Sicilian Defense – Taimanov

  1. 00:39 I think that was lag rather than a mouse slip.

  2. Livestreaming chess at 8:00PM EDT (12:00AM GMT)
    twitch (dot) tv/ChessNetwork
    ~30 minutes

  3. Are you streaming now, because your stream is dead for me 🙁

  4. Jerry – if you ever play on a Windows Platform again: Go to your mouse settings and turn off the option "Enhance Pointer Precision." That turns off mouse acceleration on Windows 7.

  5. my apologies I mean off… if you untick it… it will turn that pesky mouse acceleration off. It's late. Your awesome videos aren't really helping my insomnia.

  6. Is it possible to turn of mouse acceleration on a mac?
I really don't like that "feature"

  7. That was not the fault of the mouse, it was somebody's clumsy fingers.

  8. Jerry I have a question. You've said in a lot of videos that you like to keep the tension going (between pawns or what have you). Why? What is lost or gained when tension is maintained or dissolved? Or rather, what should I think about when I am considering the tension in my own games?

  9. hey I was thinkin of trying out chess cube. I play sometimes on fics and . what made u choose chesscube?

  10. Are chesscube players overrated or ICC players underrated? I really don't understand it, because the 1700 players I watch you crush make terrible mistakes I would NEVER see my lower rated opponents make. I swear the 1400 players on ICC will play consistently better than these guys.

  11. I think he means he'd rather avoid simplifying a position by making exchanges. By keeping more of your pieces on the board you keep the situation complex, which hopefully will lead to mistakes by your opponent (hopefully not by you). I think the metric is: keep the tension until you're up material; then you can simplify. I hope that helps. 🙂

  12. First video I've watched of you and already feel like I'm improving.. I'm only ~1100 atm, so I'm terrible but starting to improve.

  13. Great. Nice to have you aboard. There's lots to learn. 🙂

  14. The don't have the same rating system, also on this site, you could beat someone on 1 minute chess, and have that rating when you play 10 minutes chess later on, also you pay for ICC, and people who really don't play that much nor understands the game probably won't play on ICC.

  15. Get a razor mamba ergonomic elite already… ! mouse slip free since 2009 !

  16. add me on chesscube, let's improve together. (My sn is Desolin) 😀

  17. Hey Jerry, from now on we should call 7…f6 in this line: The Sicilian Taimanov Jerry Variation 🙂

  18. Your rating went down from 2880 to 2846, who'd you lose to after the last commentary you posted (#173)?
