It’s a Grunfeld Defense in this one, with white opting for 5.Qb3, the Russian variation. If there’s a focal point in the Grunfeld opening, it is the d4 square. How focused would both players be on this square, and would it be a wise choice to give the opponent the true bishop pair (2 knights vs 2 bishops) in order to grab a central pawn? This was a 3|0 time control game, where I was playing with the white pieces.

I'm enjoying this style of videos with one chess game and a lot of analysis recently. I do think that keeping the games at or above five minutes per side would better facilitate commentary during the game, like you said 🙂

You were saying black can't get a passed pawn on the queenside, but when you took on b5 (around the 30:27 mark during the analysis) why didn't black play c5?

27:00 Black actually has a way of creating a passed pawn there: First play b5, then answer white's cxb5 with c5. Technically, this even works with c7-c6 played – though, in that case whitewould answer b5 with c5 and now the only way to make a passed pawn is to play b6 at some point, giving white a much more advanced passer.
Anyway, if you want to prevent these possibilities altogether, you need to play a4 as soon as the pawn ending arises.
