Blitz Chess #349: French Defense, Exchange

This is a blitz chess game I played as black with time control 5|2. The opening was the French Defense, Exchange variation. The exchange variation of the French has a tendency to be a bit dull due to the resulting symmetrical pawn structure, however in this one a structural imbalance occurs on the kingside, the side where the action basically takes place for the duration of the game.

  1. Damn that's fast. I saw you online on lichess like 30 mins ago and already you upload a new game. Much appreciated! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I would have dropped that D pawn instead of weakening king's

  3. Hi everyone it's Jerry I'm onnnnnnn lichess dot org aaaaaaand I just got paired up…

  4. perhaps because we are calmer watching this at home ,that it was easier for us to spot the check and fork you missed.

  5. I love that you do 5|2 games. It's short enough to find time to watch with my busy schedule, it's long enough that you have time to have meaningful thoughts during the game, and the increment doesn't lead to the eminent time-burning-only endgame.

  6. 20:56 Queen D5 might not be so bad. If Bishop takes F4, you have Queen F3 check. In the end, you win another pawn and is threatening mate after Knight takes F4.

  7. Jerry, when are you going to become an IM? I'm sure whenever you want…

  8. I like playing the french, and that rook b8 move guarding the pawn is definitely something I'll consider from now on. Thanks!

  9. I really loved this video. I was looking for ideas for white after the move c4 but I found this video very educational as well from black's point of view.
